CINCINNATI (AP) -- A southwest Ohio lawmaker that authorities say misled investors and used their money for personal gain has entered a not guilty plea.

State Rep. Pete Beck is free on a $50,000 bond, with a Hamilton County Common Pleas court hearing scheduled Aug. 12. The certified public accountant from Mason waived a scheduled arraignment appearance Friday.

The 60-year-old Republican was indicted last week on charges including theft, securities fraud, making misrepresentations and selling securities in an insolvent company without full disclosure.

Beck has denied allegations against him as "scandalous" through his attorneys. He also has brushed away calls for his resignation.
