Andermatt is one of the largest year-round holiday destinations currently being developed in the Swiss Alps, and is proving to be a highly popular with both British investors as well as those from other European countries and the Middle East, although the majority of buyers are still Swiss.
The project will transform this formerly quiet village into an upmarket and busy resort. Property has been selling so well that the developer recently announced it would invest another CHF115 million in the destination this year. Construction work planned for this year includes building the first chalets and apartment building as well as the golf clubhouse, while final work on the interior and facade of the Chedi Andermatt hotel will be completed ahead of its opening next winter.
There is to be an 18-hole golf course, six four and five-star hotels, about 25 villas, 490 apartments located in 42 buildings, a sports and recreation centre, a convention and concert hall with capacity for 600 visitors, and 35,000 m? of commercial space. There are also plans to integrate and modernise the ski area between Andermatt and Sedrun which is expected to be completed by late 2013. Andermatt is already renowned as being a fantastic ski area with 125 km of pistes catering for skiers of every standard.
Additional winter activities include sledging and snowshoeing. The area is also very popular in the summer, offering a huge range of outdoor activities. These include hiking, biking, paragliding, climbing, fishing, tennis and of course golfing, and all take place in beautiful alpine scenery. Located in the heart of the Gotthard region, Andermatt is the ideal starting point for exploring the area.
